About Us
Welcome to AlliYUM Free! We're so glad you're here.
I'm Jessica (the one with the allium allergy), and this is my husband, Mark (who can eat literally anything)!
While I've had "interesting" reactions to food for as long as I can remember, it wasn't until 2021 that I finally discovered the cause: an allium allergy.
For years, I dealt with bloating, itchiness, cystic acne, and unpredictable reactions after eating. I blamed everything from stress to laundry detergent—but never garlic or onion.
After months on an elimination diet, a doctor finally connected the dots. I quickly learned that avoiding fresh garlic and onions wasn't enough. Powders, spices, broths, "natural flavors," and cross-contamination suddenly became part of everyday life. Grocery shopping, eating out, and even reading ingredient labels felt overwhelming.
Thankfully, I wasn't navigating it alone.
Mark dove headfirst into researching ingredients, experimenting in the kitchen, and proving that allium-free food could still be incredibly flavorful. Together, we learned how to confidently order at restaurants, find products we could trust, and recreate the meals we thought we'd never enjoy again.
That's why we created AlliYUM Free.
When we started this journey, we wished there was one place with practical advice, restaurant recommendations, product finds, and recipes made specifically for people living allium-free. We couldn't find it—so we decided to build it.
Whether you're newly diagnosed or have been navigating an allium allergy for years, we hope this space helps you feel a little less overwhelmed and a lot more excited about food again.
And don't forget to follow us on Instagram, where we share allergy-friendly restaurant finds from Austin and around the world as we travel—because living allium-free shouldn't stop you from exploring.
*Please note: We're not doctors, dietitians, or nutritionists. We're simply two people who have learned through experience. We still make mistakes from time to time, but everything we share comes from a genuine desire to help make your allium-free journey a little easier—and a lot more delicious.
